Climate crisis is only becoming grave affecting individuals, communities, economies, and ecosystems around the globe. To reduce emissions and adapt to climate impacts and reduce global warming world bodies are putting conscious effort. According to a report National Academies of Science (NAS), USA suggests to set up a large-scale Solar geoengineering research program, focused to cool Earth either by adding small reflective particles to the upper atmosphere, or by increasing reflective cloud cover in the lower atmosphere, or by thinning high-altitude clouds that can absorb heat. As suggested in the report outcome of the research has potential to reduce global warming, but it might have unforeseen harmful consequences. Moreover, research should operate under robust research governance that includes a research code of conduct, a public registry for research, systems for outdoor experiments, guidance on intellectual property and inclusive public and stakeholder engagement processes.
Reducing fossil fuel emissions still remains most urgent and pressing need to tackle climate crisis. As NSA suggest slow progress on climate action is matter of concern.
The report considers three types of solar geoengineering to allow more heat to escape the Earth’s atmosphere: injecting tiny reflective particles into the stratosphere to block sunlight; using the particles to make low-lying clouds over the oceans more reflective; and thinning high-altitude cirrus clouds. Major volcanic eruptions are already known to cool the climate by pumping particles high into the atmosphere.
Marcia McNutt, the president of the academy says,
“Given the urgency of the climate crisis, solar geoengineering needs to be studied further, but just as with advances in fields such as artificial intelligence or gene editing, science needs to engage the public to ask not just can we, but should we?”.
The academy said the program should include scientific research on the possible climate outcomes of geoengineering, and impacts on ecosystems and society. Social dimensions cited for research included “domestic and international conflict and cooperation” and “justice, ethics, and equity.”
“Solar geoengineering is an extremely risky and intrinsically unjust technological proposal that doesn’t address any of the causes of climate change,” said Silvia Ribeiro, Latin America director for the ETC campaign group.
3D printing, also known as “Additive Manufacturing”, turns digital blueprints to physical objects by building them layer by layer. 4D printing is based on this technology. With one big difference: It uses special materials and sophisticated designs that are “programmed” to prompt your 3D print to change its shape.
3D printing has already had a profound impact on the manufacturing sector. We are now able to print in hundreds of different materials, making anything from toys to houses to organs. However, we are finally seeing the emergence of 3D printers that can print food itself.
Leveraging the convergence of exponential technologies will set us on the path to solve our GGCs and shift from an era of scarcity to abundance. Given that exponential technologies rapidly fall in cost while dramatically scaling and improving in sophistication, we believe an innovative person, team, company, organization, or ecosystem can solve a social problem that impacts billions of people, possibly within the next ten years..Each of the Global Challenges are discussed in detail here.
Energy is a bit of a mystery. Most of the time we can't see it, yet it is everywhere around us. Revving car engines burn energy, hot cups of coffee hold energy, street lights that shine at night are using energy, sleeping dogs are using energy too—absolutely everything you can think of is using energy in one way or another. Energy is a magical thing that makes other things happen. Everything in the world is either energy or matter ("stuff" around us) and even matter, when you really get down to it, is a kind of energy!
The environment is something you are very familiar with. It's everything that makes up our surroundings and affects our ability to live on the earth—the air we breathe, the water that covers most of the earth's surface, the plants and animals around us, and much more.
In recent years, scientists have been carefully examining the ways that people affect the environment. They have found that we are causing air pollution, deforestation, acid rain, and other problems that are dangerous both to the earth and to ourselves.
Food, substance consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, fat, and other nutrients used in the body of an organism to sustain growth and vital processes and to furnish energy. The absorption and utilization of food by the body is fundamental to nutrition and is facilitated by digestion. Plants, which convert solar energy to food by photosynthesis, are the primary food source. Animals that feed on plants often serve as sources of food for other animals.
Shelter often refers to: Shelter (building), a basic architectural structure or building that provides cover, Animal shelter, a facility that houses homeless, lost, or abandoned animals; mostly dogs and cats, Homeless shelter, a temporary residence for homeless people, sometimes simply referred to as a "shelter", Women's shelter, also known as a women's refuge or battered women's shelter, a place of temporary protection and support for women escaping domestic violence and intimate partner violence
Made In Space, created during our 2010 Global Solutions Program or GSP (now the Global Startup Program), realized that if we could put 3D printers and robots into space, we could also manufacture anything we needed in space rather than haul it back and forth via expensive rockets in missions that required months and sometimes years of planning.
Whether they lack it, have too much of it or cannot drink it, every human being on the planet face the challenge of water. Such a global challenge can only be met by a collective response. Everywhere in the world, water is still a key issue. Source of inequalities when scarce or difficult to access, of geopolitical conflicts when shared, of public health problems when polluted or even of humanitarian disasters when provoking natural catastrophes: whatever challenges the water issue raises, the most affected are always the most vulnerable people.

Endoscopic Medical Treatment has gained significant boost with more and more use of AI to detect stomach cancer, esophageal cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer. Companies like AI Medical Service are working in this direction to develop systems to support endoscopic digestive exams.AI tools developed by AI Medical Service uses AI to analyze video feeds from endoscopes, long camera equipped tubes that feed down the esophagus and small intestine in real time, spotting bleeding and polyps to help doctors identify which might be cancerous. A whooping 92% accuracy in the diagnosis of stomach cancer lesions have been achieved from the video feeds. In human life scenario any thing less than 100% is not an approve-able state of affairs even though. “We foresee an irreversible trend of doctors diagnosing cancer in collaboration with AI in the near future. Supported by the world’s leading medical institutions and specialists in the field and led by experienced management, the endoscopy AI developed by AIM has huge potential to help endoscopists and patients globally.” said Globis Capital Partners director Satoshi Fukushima. While bigger players like Google AI, Goodle Deep Mind and Arterys are leaveraging AI to detect presence of cancer and other degenerative conditions other players are budding fast. Aidoc uses AI for head, chest, abdomen, and spine tests. Zebra Medical Vision spent three years developing an end-to-end computer vision system capable of diagnosing breast cancer and predicting cardiovascular disease. MedyMatch, a startup applying AI to medical imaging scans from stroke victims. UK National Health Services and Google DeepMind are working together to develop algorithm to detect early stage blindness signs,
We know Mammograms have proven as a factor in mortality rate eduction due to breast cancer, however the accuracy rate is not encouraging as false positive calls are high.IBM and MIT CSAIL are working towards developing AI models for better scanning, yet they are far from 100% due to the fact that they operate on single screening exam.New York University's researchers propose ML framework based on prior exam and screening. “Radiologists often compare current mammograms to prior ones to make more informed diagnoses,” wrote the coauthors of the reserach paper. “For instance, if a suspicious region grows in size or density over time, radiologists can be more confident that it is malignant. Conversely, if a suspicious region does not grow, then it is probably benign”. The team trained an ensemble of machine learning models on the open source New York University Breast Cancer Screening Dataset, with each screening containing at least one image corresponding to the four views typically used in mammography screenings (right craniocaudal, left craniocaudal, right mediolateral oblique, and left mediolateral oblique). They used four binary labels to indicate the presence or absence of benign or malignant findings in the left or the right breast, taking care to consider only the subset of the data set that included patients for which prior exams are available.
The assembled corpus contained 127,451 exam pairs from 43,013 patients, where 2,519 pairs had at least one biopsy performed.
The team trained an ensemble of machine learning models on the data and then compared their performance using only a portion of the training data set. They note that there wasn’t an observable improvement over the baseline for benign predictions, which they attributed to the algorithms’ tendency to focus on regions of scans with significant changes. (Not many changes accompany benign findings.) But they found that one of the models — AlignLocalCompare — showed substantial improvement with respect to the malignant findings, predicting the likelihood of a tumor with 0.97 probability, compared with the baseline’s prediction of 0.73 with about a year gap between two exams for both patients.
Paralyzed man moves in mind reading exoskeleton: A man has been able to move all four of his paralyzed limbs with a mind-controlled exoskeleton suit. Thibault had surgery to place two implants on the surface of the brain, covering the parts of the brain that control movement. Sixty-four electrodes on each implant read the brain activity and beam the instructions to a nearby computer. Sophisticated computer software reads the brainwaves and turns them into instructions for controlling the exoskeleton.
Microsoft describes the project, titled DreamWalker, as "a method for allowing people to safely navigate a given route in real-world environments, such as a daily walk to work, while seeing themselves strolling a different VR world, such as a city of their choosing." It was developed by researchers Jackie Yang, Eyal Ofek, Andy Wilson, and Christian Holz.

Quantum computing, a topic unknown to most of the population a decade ago, has burst into the public’s imagination over the past few years. Part of this interest can be attributed to concerns about the slowing of technology scaling, also known as Moore’s law, which has driven computing performance for over half a century, increasing interest in alternative computing technology. But most of the excitement comes from the unique computational power of a quantum computer and recent progress in creating the underlying hardware, software, and algorithms necessary to make it work.
Robots are the second form of avatars. Imagine a humanoid robot that you can occupy at will. Maybe, in a city far from home, you’ve rented the bot by the minute—via a different kind of ridesharing company—or maybe you have spare robot avatars located around the country.Either way, put on VR goggles and a haptic suit, and you can teleport your senses into that robot. This allows you to walk around, shake hands, and take action—all without leaving your home.
Even people who discarded smart homes as devices for pretentious youngsters are now finding it difficult to ignore the capabilities the technology comes with. While it started with a steady growth, the demand for connected home devices will see a sharp rise in the years to come. This demand, in turn, will increase the need for the manufacturing of connected electronic devices..
Over the past several years, the cryptocurrency and blockchain space has seen immense growth, not only regarding digital asset prices, but also in the many startups and existing businesses that are now involved in the industry and its underlying technology.
Numbers from the past year, however, show decreased interest from job seekers even though the number of jobs in the crypto and blockchain industry has grown, according to recent data gathered by popular employment site Indeed.
